LOOP

Considered Chicago’s official downtown area, “The Loop” is bordered by the Chicago River on the west, Michigan Avenue on the east, Wacker Drive on the north, and Congress Parkway on the south. Many believe the term “The Loop” originated back in the late 1800s from the elevated trains that turned on a pulley, making a “loop” in the center of the city. Its business district began with the building of the Willis (formerly Sears Tower) in 1974. Today you’ll find an array of businesses, political and cultural institutions, shopping along State Street, and major downtown theater venues. To the east is the beautiful Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park. Lakeshore east is a newer community within The Loop, situated just east of the business district. The Loop is also known for its famous skyscrapers, historic and architecturally significant buildings. In recent years, developers were spurred to consider The Loop as a new horizon for living, shopping and great entertainment.
